_Significance :: "IXOYE"
The word “ixoye” is an acronym comprised of the first letter of five Greek words:
Iesous Xristos Theou Yios Sotare which means Jesus, Christ, God, Son, Savior.
• Iesous (Iasoos) is Jesus. The first letter is ‘iota’, Ιησους.
• Xristos (Christos) is Christ. The first letter is ‘chi’, Χριστóς.
• Theou (Theou) is God. The first letter is ‘theta’, Θεοῦ.
• Yios (Huios) is Son. The first letter is ‘upsilon’, Υἱός.
• Sotare (Sotare) is Savior. The first letter is sigma’, Σωτήρ.
The word is also the Greek word for “fish," icthus, ἰχθύς which when spelled in
capital letters in Greek is ΙΧΘΥΣ. Jesus called the fishermen to be fishers of men (Matthew 4:19; Mark 1:17) He used the metaphor to represent evangelism in the proclamation of the gospel by which people are saved from their sins. Christians began using the fish as a symbol for Christianity in the first century.

Contributing Artists :: KCC + Community
Prior to creating this artwork, the blank canvas was left at Kansas City Christian School for teachers, staff and board members to form a foundation of written prayer for the artists to build upon. Play the slideshow at the left to read them.
When the construction of the IXOYE sculpture was complete, every student in the school put their fingerprint on the artwork, signifying their belief that Jesus Christ is God's Son, Savior. Event goers will be invited to do the same.

Follow the Progress :: The Creative Process
The creative process used in forming this mixed-media sculpture is an artistic metaphor for the way God refines His people. He sees potential rather than waste. He takes what we may deem ugly and useless, and transforms it into something beautiful and useful...if we let Him.

Buyers :: The Art Event at KCC
The IXOYE sculpture was available for group purchase at The Art Event's Opening Night Party on Friday, April 27th. Interested buyers were asked to give a confidential contribution in whatever dollar amount they chose to go towards a minimum price of $5,000 in order for the artwork to be gifted to the students and staff at Kansas City Christian School. IXOYE RAISED $9,422.
A portion of proceeds from the sale benefited the Fine Arts Program at Kansas City Christian School. The other portion was gifted to set apart who will be using the funds for a future collaborative, prayer-based piece of art.
