"Today in the town of David, a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:11
Isaiah turned 7 in September and is in first grade this year at Kansas City Christian School. He is doing SO well in school. We are very proud of his work ethic and his character.
Isaiah keeps our family moving all the time. He loves anything that requires physical activity (and even if it doesn't, he puts movement to it anyway). Isaiah learned how to ride his bike this year and started playing soccer and basketball, too. It is so fun to watch him play, as he smiles and laughs the entire time. If only that fun-loving innocence would stick around forever...
Isaiah loves music, especially anything with a good beat. He is forever practicing new beatboxing sounds ("boots and cuts"--thank you Electric Company) as well as perfecting his hip-hop dance moves. You know those iPod commercials that show people dancing while listening to their iPod? That is Isaiah to a T. He's a fantastic entertainer...yet won't perform for anyone outside the family. Hmm.
When you are moving [fast] all the time like he is, you are bound to fall once in a while. Isaiah had his first trip to the ER this year for a set of stitches in his forehead. OUCH!
Isaiah is always talking and making us laugh. (He kinda takes after his dad in that way.) He brings so much joy to our home! His imagination is wild with adventure! His stories always begin believable, but generally end up with us asking, "Is that true?" His imagination continues to grow now that he has learned to read.
Isaiah loves to put his imagination to work through all kinds of art. Whether drawing or painting or building, Isaiah is always creating something beautiful for us to enjoy.
Izabella turned 9 in June and is in fourth grade this year at Kansas City Christian School. Year after year she continues to be a good student and a good friend. (That's an answer to prayer, as we pray for that everyday before school!)
Izabella is growing up right before our eyes! It was a big day this year when we started Phase 1 orthodontia. She has a mouthful of stuff...a palette expander on the roof of her mouth, a lower lip bumper and braces on the top four teeth. We are amazed at how quickly (and beautifully!) her smile has been transformed! Now she will actually show her teeth when she smiles!
She got to experience her first real ballet this year when we went to watch her friend Megan dance as an angel in the Nutcracker at the new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. She loved it! Afterwards she said, "I give it a 9 out of 10! I would have given it a 10 if they would have talked." ;-)
She continues to play soccer, and this fall her team won 1st Place in their league. We were super proud of the all the girls, as it was a major improvement from the Spring season. This winter she is playing basketball again and Mom is helping coach again. Last season was SO much fun, and we are looking forward for the games to start in 2013.
Izabella is an avid reader...we can't keep enough books on her shelves. She is especially interested in history and true stories. Her favorite book is Soul Surfer, the story of Bethany Hamilton. She dreams of one day going to Hawaii to meet her. She loves to travel, but has yet to go on an airplane and is forever reminding us of that!
2012 was a whirlwind of a year! Between set apart and "That's what He said" shirts, this year was beyond imagination for Kristin and Brent!
By far, the most exciting part of 2012 was the Passion Awards. In just our second year of ministry with set apart, we were one of 12 ministries out of 167 applicants to be awarded a $10,000 grant from the National Christian Foundation--Heartland. And in addition to the award, they invited us to come alongside their event team and use our creativity to help them "up the experience" for 1,000+ attendees. It is so hard to put words to the experience. It was literally beyond imagination for us on every level. If you want to know more about the award and our involvement, click here.
We were also blessed this year to work with a couple of other ministries that are making worldwide impact: The Gideons International and DaySpring Cards.
Locally, we were honored to be involved in an inaugural art show/fundraising event called The Art Event at KCC. We created 3 fundraising pieces for the show: one for Kansas City Christian School and two for their partnering charities: The House of Hope KC and Freedom Fire Urban Ministries. As a result of sales from the show, we are establishing art classes for both ministries. We are looking forward to being part of the event in a new way in 2013!
Kristin had a fantastic year with her "That's what He said!" t-shirt line. She launched an actual website (rather than just a FB store), several new shirt designs, a new line of glass tile jewelry and is also selling offline at the bookstore/coffee shop at Westside Family Church. She sold at several shows and conferences this year and was featured on Christian author Holley Gerth's blog. Some new and exciting things are already cooking for 2013...
As busy as we are day-in, day-out, we thank God for all of it! What we already know about 2013 simply humbles us. God continues to amaze us on every level, and we are excited to see what else He has in store for our ministry and our family in 2013.
Wishing each of you peace, joy and wonder this Christmas and in the coming year. Please stay in touch...we love hearing from you!
Merry Christmas with love,
Brent, Kristin, Izabella and Isaiah
