Alysia Quisenberry is [ set apart ].
_Alysia Quisenberry's artistic gifts span the creative spectrum. She creates with courage
and determination, yet exhibits patience while waiting for her artwork to reveal itself.
Most recently, Alysia worked with set apart to paint a piece of artwork created especially for the House of Hope Kansas City (see her in action above), which will be available for group purchase at The Art Event at KCC on April 27, 2012.
What is/are your creative passion(s)?
Painting, printmaking, and basically any 2D media.
How are you using your creative gifts?
Painting and working on my own personal projects, teaching, raising my 3 year old to be a creative spirit.
What message do you try to communicate in your creative work?
Beauty and an emotional connection to nature, color, and light.
What is your ideal environment for creating?
A studio with natural light, an open window, and some good music playing loudly.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration can hit me anywhere I see beauty and design. Usually, it's from being outside. Sometimes I drive out to the Flint Hills, but sometimes it can be as simple as the shadows
the trees make on the the grass. Sometimes inspiration can come from unexpected places, like the postmark on a piece of mail.
Who has been a great influence on your life?
Artistically, my professors in college, especially Tanja Butler. My amazing family and friends have been very influential, too. I can't forget to mention that the harder times in my life
have shaped who I am, and I am a better person for it.
Describe the ultimate opportunity in your line of work.
I want to truly use my talents and not take them for granted. For me, part of that is showing my work. It's sharing a piece of myself. I would love to have paintings shown at First Fridays here in Kansas City. Now, if I could just find the time to pursue that! Helping others and my community through my creativity is also one of my ultimate opportunities.
What advice do you have for other artists and creatives on their journey?
To create without confining yourself to what you think it should be...let the piece evolve
into what it wants to be!
What would you do for Jesus if you knew he wouldn't let you fail?
I would believe with my whole heart.
